Nine wire systems allow you to pick up signals from two different sources by using two satellites. This is sometimes called a nine-wire 2 sat system.
The nine wire system comes into the building and splits off into switching units, this then distributes off into the various points throughout the building.
With the Two satellites, you can get more than one signal source, for example, you can have one of the satellites pick up Sky using ASTRA28.2° E and this can pick up signals from Sky/SkyPLUS/SkyHD.
On the second satellite, you can pick up HOTBIRD13.0° E which is multilanguage channels, i.e Arabic, Turkish, Spanish, Welsh, etc.
Astra 28.2°E is the name for the group of Astra communications satellites co-located at the 28.2° East position in the Clark Belt that is owned and operated by SES.
SES is based in Betzdorf, Luxembourg. It is one of the major TV satellite positions serving Europe (the others being at 19.2° East, 13 ° East, 23.5° East
and 5° East. The satellites at the Astra 28.2° E position primarily provide digital TV, digital radio and multimedia services to the UK and Republic of Ireland, broadcasting more than 470 TV,
radio and interactive channels to homes in the UK and Ireland.
Hot Bird is a group of satellites operated by Eutelsat, located at 13° East over the Equator and with a transmitting footprint over Asia, Europe, North Africa, the Americas, and the Middle East.
Only digital radio and television channels are transmitted by the Hot Bid constellation, both free-to-air and encrypted. In addition there and a few interactive and IP services. The satellites currently
operate at 13° East and are numbered 13B, 13C, and 13D.
In a Nine-wire system, the multi-switching unit is called a Triax TMM 5x16 multi-switch, This works for us because it's a 4 satellite IF and 1 terrestrial TV input and 16 subscribers outputs, 4 satellite IF and 1 terrestrial with adjustable level control. Cable loss compensation with built-in amplification, color-coded outputs, LED power indication on each Trunkline. The TMM 5x16 is supplied with output earth bond bars.
One vision has installed Nine wire systems into various places across the UK. We have installed them into Bristol, London, and Swansea centers. These systems have been installed to supply TV into apartment blocks, Houses and flats, with the use of more than one satellite. We are then able to supply the tenants with more than one channel provider. When installing Nine wire systems into apartment blocks and flats we normally install two points into each apartment complex, There would be one in the lounge and another one in the bedroom. For example, if you have the satellites set to Astra 28.2°E and Hotbird 13°E you can have Astra supplied into the lounge which would mean having Sky, Freeview and Freesat channels and Hotbird 13°E in the bedroom would mean you could have access to multilanguage broadcasters, i.e Spanish, Turkish, Arabic, etc.
Below are some images with examples of Nine wire systems.
