Ysgol Maes y Gwendraeth in Cefneithin has 1,000 pupils, including a 157-pupil sixth form and provision for children with additional learning needs.
Parts of the existing school building have been refurbished and there are new technology and science blocks, as well as a sports hall and 3G pitch.
It is the sixth school to officially open in the county in the past year.
It forms part of Carmarthenshire council's modernising education programme, which receives Welsh Government funding.
