Overview of Cable Types
There are many different cable types within the industry, all of which have different uses for different project scenarios.
One Vision is well experienced with the installation of various types of cables from simple CAT5e to Multimode Fibre optic cables. Below you can see the types of cables we use and the differences between each type.
There are two primary types of fibre optic cable we use; Singlemode and Multimode.
Singlemode Fibre
Singlemode Fibre has a single light path and can travel much longer distances of up to 100 kilometres, this is because it has a much smaller core size of 9 microns. This type of fibre requires much more expensive electronics which operate at 1310 and 1550nm windows and are typically used in longer distances operations such as Cable.
Multimode Fibre
Multimode fibre comes with much larger core sizes of 62.5 and 50 microns. The larger core simplifies connections and takes advantage of the lower-cost technologies which operate in the 850nm window. Due to dispersion of light, the range in which you can run this type of fibre tends to be much less and typically only used within premises of up to 1km.
